If you’ve been to Canada, you’ll have to agree with me that it is such a blessed country. No wonder tourists keep flocking there year in year out hoping to spend quality time and visit the many sites the country offers. The list of places to visit and things to do in Canada is endless and one would have to spend up to 6 months to exhaust all the exploration sites. That’s just my estimate. I thought I had discovered my favorite destination in Niagara Falls but that was till my friend prompted me to check out the Old Quebec City. I have to admit, the trip was worth it and I’ll doubtlessly be visiting it once more this year. The Quebec City tour got me thinking of the many more places I’m yet to explore, not in Canada alone but the rest of North America. I’ll surely be spending a lot of my time this year exploring new places and discovering new experiences
But I’m getting ahead of myself now. Let me briefly explain a few things I learned in Quebec and highlight some interesting places you should check out should you find yourself in the city.
Places to Explore in Quebec City
1. Quartier Petit Champlain
Walking the streets of Quartier Petit Champlain is perhaps one of the best experiences in Quebec City. You’ll enjoy shopping in the many indie boutique shops, galleries, and restaurants with alluring storefronts that you will hate to leave. Remember to carry a camera to take some awesome photos for your friends and be sure to carry some souvenirs from the many thrift shops.
2. Montmorency Falls
Canada also has some amazing falls, and one of its largest, the Montmorency Falls, is just a short drive away from the city. The falls are from the Montmorency River and they are around all through the year, so it doesn’t matter when you visit. The Montmorency Falls are part of the Montmorency Park which is open and free for tourists all through the year.
3. Musée de la civilization à Québec
Another popular attraction in Quebec City is the Musée de la civilization á Québec, a museum where you can get to explore the history and culture of Québec City. The museum has 8 rotating exhibitions, and your kids will love the Discovery Zone part of the museum.
4. Citadel of Québec
The Citadel of Quebec is yet another historical site that you will love to see in Quebec City. The large fortress is among the first heritage conservation projects of Canada. The Citadel was built in the 1800s by British troops, and it is still an active military base today.
5. Aquarium du Québec
I can’t forget to mention the Aquarium du Québec, which is a must-visit site if you bring your kids along on your trip. The aquarium is home to thousands of animals, including Taiga and Eddy, the aquariums of two polar bears. Besides these, there are over 10,000 other maritime animals that you and your kids will love to watch. There are also man fun things for your kids such as the water games and other fun kids’ events, especially during the Halloween season.
Whether you are a historian, nature lover, or just another enthusiastic tourist like me, Quebec City is surely one of the fun places you should visit in Canada. There are numerous sites to visit and fun activities to involve in. There are also many kid-friendly events for kids, so you can bring your entire family along. You will be sure to have a memorable experience in the old city.
